Shopping For Replacements

Mission: The Missing
Leslie wrapped the cloak around herself and had tied it off at the waist as she entered the shop in the village square of Fairfell. The night before had been rather quite restful, as well as energetic, and she had slept like a rock afterwards. The morning had resulted in another relatively quiet tryst with Alden in HIS bed after the two Genasi had left, but before she got up and made herself as presentable as she could for the rest of her day.
Between herself, Alden and the two Genasi, they had agreed that this day would be spent in getting resupplied and one of those things had involved her needing new clothes. The reason she'd wrapped her cloak around her so tightly was that despite being cleaned, mostly, what she'd been wearing the day before had been reduced to shreds and were almost no more coverage than a particularly baudy bathing suit. While she enjoyed those as much as the next girl, going around showing more skin than what was covered when she could be expecting combat wasn't going to work.
"Good morning, patron!" The merchant boomed with a heartly laugh, "How may I help you today?"
Leslie gave a bright smile and gave a bit of a shrug, "Well, you know how we adventurers are, we go out one day, come back the next and decide that in the meantime, we should do a bit of shopping!" She untied the sash around the cloak and let it fall open, "And things come out the worst for wear."
"Oh my..." The merchant glanced her over, not in any sort of sexual way, though he got a good eyeful of the undergarments, "I'm not sure that I'd be able to repair those, at least not in any sort of meaningful amount of time. May I ask what you ran into that caused the damage?"
"Giant lizards, then a harpy, but it was mostly the lizards." Leslie spun in place to take a look around, "So I'm looking for something newish, but stylish and that can be worn while adventuring. I think I'll go with a whole new outfit, even the boots, so if you have something that's been worked a bit on that note, so I don't get blisters or anything?"
"I can certainly help with that sort, Miss." The merchant came out from behind his counter and gestured widely to the far corner of his shop, where a small selection of clothes were hanging on hangers or sitting on shelves, "While I don't have the best selection of all time, Fairfell is a small town after all, I do carry some adventuring clothes or even rather nice sets, so if Miss is going to go to a party, we can certainly make you fashionable for it."
Leslie blushed as she followed him over, perusing the folded clothes, holding one tunic up against her to check it out, then shaking her head, "I'm looking for a bit of a combination of the two, if I were to tell the truth. I can't wear armor, it's against the code of conduct for my Order, I'm a monk, you see, but I also want to look good."
The merchant looked over her once more as he nodded and considered, "What we can do if needed, is mix and match from our outfits if it's really needed, but I may have a couple of outfits that could work for an adventurer like you." He rummaged around the racks for a moment before withdrawing four sets and placing them inside the small room he had for people to try things on in. "Go ahead and try them on to see how they look, I can have them tailored in a jiffy if any of them strike your fancy."
The next half hour took Leslie through trying on each of them. The one that had a pair of pants, she dismissed immediately. She still tried on the tunic and found that she liked the look of the green and gold, and matched it with a black skirt from the set that had a purple tunic with it instead of those black pants. The other two was a choice between a sky blue tunic and a dark pink, with matching skirts and after trying each on twice, she decided to go with the pink. It would hide the blood a bit better at least.
She emerged with the outfits, three of them as she'd decided to wear the green and gold and brought them to the front. "I hope you don't mind that I swapped the pants for the skirt, they're both black, so...."
"Of course not, that's perfectly fine!" The merchant said with a smile, "And if I might add, that tunic does go rather well with your eyes. I presume you've decided on which set of clothes to purchase today?"
"Actually, I have, and I definitely want this one, and if I've enough coin, perhaps a second one." Leslie pondered for a few seconds, trying to decide just how much to offer, "For the one I'm wearing now, I was wondering how much you wanted for it?"
The merchant looked over her, the green calfskin boots came halfway up her shins. The skirt was a reinforced fabric with leather belt with a green lay of stitchery and the tunic, which looked more like a jacket with a built in shirt that showed a significant amount of cleavage, was much the same, though it was obvious some leather was used in it. "Ordinarily, I'd be asking 15 gold pieces for it, however if you were to also trade your former outfit, I could knock it down to 10. I may be able to repair them enough to sell, you see, being a trained tailor."
That almost made Leslie cringe, it was a bit more than she'd hope to spend and she'd lose her other clothes, but they were beyond repair and she did have the gold, technically. But not for two outfits, even at 'only' 10 gp. "I was really hoping to get it for cheaper, so I could purchase this one as well." She gestured to the pink skirt and shirt, which weren't as solidly put together, less reinforcement, but the tunic still was a double-thickness of fabric with a lighter pink in the bodice area. The boots were the same as the ones she wore now, just dyed a pink instead of a dark green.
The merchant took his time to consider. It wasn't every day that he was able to sell a single person two sets of clothes, the villagers only bought one at a time and adventurers the same, or else they only came for repairs. The pink set had been on the shelf for several months, though the green was much newer. "I think we can come to an arrangement. How about 16 gold pieces for the two of them, plus I'll replace your old cloak with a brand new traveling cloak." He reached behind him for an ivory cloak, which he had in plenty. Besides, his apprentice was working on them as he trained to be a tailor as well, so the work on them made them cheap and expendable.
Leslie sighed in relief, pulling out her coin pouch and counting out the coins. It would leave her with nine, of which five weren't technically hers to spend because of the tribute for the Order. In fact, she'd now have four gold pieces to her name but no doubt there would be more work for her shortly. Walking into town for a quick quest had been fortuitous, plus she may be able to borrow from Alden if needed. She placed them in three stacks of five with a single coin next to it, "Sixteen gold pieces! It really has been a pleasure, this looks amazing!"
"Thank you for your patronage, Miss, Tildens Tailory and General Goods is always open for good customers." He bowed to her before sweeping the coins off the table and retrieving the other two sets of clothes, "And if you need anything repaired, please come back, our rates are usually rather good, assuming the repairs aren't too intense, otherwise we do have to charge higher rates."
Leslie winked at him, "I definitely understand and believe me, I'll tell the rest of my party about you!" She first put on the cloak, then grabbed the set of pink clothes and very carefully rolled them up for easier portage, "See you again, I promise!" And she was out the door, back towards the inn to make sure she packed these much better than she otherwise would.
